Immediate Support for Children with Urgent Needs

The Ontario Autism Program (OAP) Urgent Response Service provides quick, short-term support for children and youth with autism who are experiencing urgent needs, such as sudden changes in behavior, emotional distress, or safety concerns.

At Inspire Centre, our team works closely with families to provide personalized strategies, coaching, and service navigation to stabilize situations and connect children with the right resources. If your child is facing an urgent challenge, we’re here to help—providing the support, tools, and guidance needed to create a safe and positive environment.

Short-Term Support to Address Urgent Behavioral Needs

The OAP Urgent Response Service, Is Not A Crisis Service, it is a time-limited rapid service response of up to 12 weeks for children and youth with Autism who are registered in the Ontario Autism Program (OAP).

The service is intended to address a specific behaviour need to prevent further escalation of risk of harm to self, others and/or property.

To be eligible for OAP Urgent Response Services, you/your child must be:

  • Registered in the Ontario Autism Program.

  • Experiencing one or more of the following high-risk factors that have started or worsened in the last 14 day and can be supported by OAP urgent response services:

High-risk factors include:

  • Aggression

  • Property destruction

  • Violent thinking

  • Fire setting

  • Harm to animal

  • Risk of exploitation

  • Self-injurious behaviour

  • Suicidal thoughts or behaviour

  • Inappropriate sexual behaviour

  • Flight risk

Please note, the OAP Urgent Response Service is not a crisis service.

OAP urgent response services do not:

  • Provide 24/7 support

  • Replace emergency or crisis supports
