Depending on an individual’s diagnosis, needs, and the family’s financial situation, there are several programs available for which applications can be completed, such as Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD), Special Services at Home (SSAH), and the Disability Tax Credit, among others. Each program has its own application process and eligibility criteria to qualify for financial support. Rest assured, the FASD support team is here to guide you through these resources and assist with the application process every step of the way.

What supports are available for individuals with FASD as they become adults?

At Inspire Centre, our FASD program is for children and youth aged 0-19 (21 if still in school), however, our team is dedicated to assisting individuals as they transition from children's services to adult services. While adult services vary based on diagnoses and individual needs, our team provides ongoing support to both the individual and their family throughout the transition process. We ensure that everyone involved receives the guidance and resources necessary to navigate this important transition smoothly.

FASD is a lifelong disorder, and while there is no cure, early and appropriate support can make a meaningful difference, helping to improve outcomes and enhance outcomes for individuals with FASD.

What support services are available for children with FASD?

At Inspire Centre, our FASD program support children, youth, and families/caregivers living with a diagnosis, or a suspected diagnosis, of FASD by providing the following: FASD awareness and prevention education Developing support plans based on the child/youth’s unique strengths and needs Support in connecting with diagnostic clinic(s) Provide educational, psychological, and emotional support post-diagnosis Advocacy within the school system Education for school personnel

How is FASD diagnosed?

A diagnosis of FASD involves a comprehensive, multidisciplinary assessment conducted by a team of healthcare professionals. This team may include pediatricians, nurse practitioners, psychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, social workers, and a clinic coordinator, all working together to evaluate developmental, behavioural and cognitive challenges, to ensure a thorough evaluation.
